Provenance Erasure · how attribution dies in the composition layer
3I/ATLAS, the Loeb Overview, and a Public-Data Signal Search — a notebook of what the published radio searches could see, and of what a scientist's position and a bounded null became on their way to the public.
A null without its scope. The Allen Telescope Array's paper sets a limit of 10–110 W for the frequencies and drift rates it kept; its drift filter keeps only positive drift, where its own ephemeris gives a tone on the object a negative one. The public account called the answer "a firm one", and its FAQ stated the limit "across 1 to 9 GHz". The composition layer carries the verdict on: at the paper's own title the Overview has every candidate "traced back to local human-made Earth technology" and the limit ruling out "any active radio transmitters" on or near the object.
The sophistry measure, first run. Seven findings on the Overviews, the ATA paper and the press, each with witness, reconstruction, type, standing granted, strongest alternative, countertest and smallest repair (the Sophistry Measure, #1727).
What the public data kept. Breakthrough Listen classifies after preservation, so the powers below threshold survive. In them, a comet-frame count in the Green Bank data of 18 December 2025 finds thirteen weak features at 1665.53–1668.46 MHz, in the band of the comet's hydroxyl lines and off them: reproducible, fragile, unreplicated, below every published floor. The notebook does not call them a transmission.
